Mike O’Brien
For Mike, fly fishing is not just about catching a fish. The single word that best describes his personality is exuberant. It is that exuberance that sets him apart from other guides because he is so passionate about fly fishing. His acumen for teaching fly fishing techniques is well documented in his Google reviews. He is not just an owner and business manager of Fly Fish with Me Utah, but an active guide, who has over 30 years of fly fishing experience and spends over 250 days a year on the water.
Mike is an avid outdoorsman. He revels in the local flora, fauna, and natural environment that surround him and often shares this infectious love with his clients as they fish together. His interest took root at the age of 9 in the Pacific Northwest when his uncle first took him fishing the lakes of the Cascade Mountains.
Fly fishing has become his favorite way to spend time outside. He is attracted to the peaceful rhythm and the excitement of catching a big fish. The breadth & depth of his knowledge of the rivers and streams he frequently fishes is second to none. He spends his time off the water preparing for his time on the water by tying many of his own flies. His passion for fly fishing has taken him from Alaska & Canada, to the fabled chalk streams of England, Japan & South Africa. There are many places he still has on his list to experience as he pursues fish around the globe. In the future, he hopes to fish the flats of Central America & the Seychelles, as well as the rivers of Patagonia & Mongolia.
Mike is active in his community and champions the cause for public access to public land. He is engaged more than any other outfitter in the fight of preserving access to the Provo River so that all can fish it. Because of his relationships with various agencies, he has set himself apart as an unofficial spokesman for guides, outfitters, & the average angler. Many guides and outfitters regularly comment that he, ‘does more than anyone else to fight for retaining historical access.’
His exuberance in guiding, and instructing ensures that each time out with Mike will be memorable.

Derek Snodgrass
Derek grew up in western Montana, and at the age of 5, was following his father around to the rivers and lakes fishing for trout and Northern Pike. He was fascinated by the creatures that live beneath the surface, and is most at home in the outdoors.
After 6 seasons commercial fishing in Alaska, it was time to pivot careers, and return to freshwater.
Entering his fourth guide season in 2024, Derek has found his dream job. Guiding is a perfect mix of teaching and sharing a passion for fly fishing and conservation.
